Dru Meditation Course (Levels 1-6)

From Beginner to Teacher Training

The next Dru Ireland Meditation course begins in spring 2013 and beginners through to experienced practitioners will greatly benefit, are all welcome. Prior to this we will be teaching at our localised workshops and the Summer Retreat in July, to give you a personal experience of Dru Meditation and enable you to experience some of the benefits.

Everyone benefits from this course, including;

  • Men and women leading busy, stressful lives
  • Yoga teachers looking to add more depth and offer meditation classes
  • Therapists adding another string to their bow
  • Community workers, NGO’s, youth workers and group leaders
  • Students to aid their studies and reduce the effects of pressure
  • Spiritual seekers building a personal practice of inner quiet
  • Parents to help their children gain greater self confidence

This course has two main goals:

  • To take you safely into a deep, profound and effective personal meditation practice.
  • Become a competent meditation teacher and hold safe, fun and popular meditation classes.

You will learn about the science of meditation and how to bring your awareness from the physical body, through to the deepest layers of your being, connecting to Source and experiencing a sense of Oneness.

The many other benefits of meditation include:

  • Balancing your stress response system for increased stress resilience and energy renewal.
  • Releasing tension, dispelling anxiety, overcome insomnia, and quieten the chattering mind.
  • Improve recovery from negative life experiences or trauma and engage a positive outlook to life.
  • Feel more connected to your inner self, others and Spirit.
  • Improve your relationships and empathic abilities
  • Learn how to quickly and effortlessly enter meditation, discovering how to become the master of your mind and emotions.

This course will give you enough knowledge for many years of profound personal practice and you need to all teach family, friends, yoga students or colleagues. You will learn how to perceive the energetic state of a group; choose appropriate techniques for optimising their meditations; how to breathe deeply and relax through meditation.

We show you how to access your individual and universal life-force helping you to generate a plentiful source of internal energy reserves. We teach you how to use the power of vibration and mantra to achieve a deep understanding of your place in the world and above all, we show you how to stand in your own power!

We are one of the first schools in Ireland and the UK to offer a Meditation Teacher Training Diploma. In fact, our first complement of Dru Meditation teachers graduated in 2011 and classes can be found around Ireland. Contact us for information of a teacher near you.

Amongst other things, you will learn:

Meditations for each layer of experience, or ‘kosha’

  • A deep understanding of subtle energy
  • Potent Dru prana kriyas, pranayama, mudra and visualisation techniques
  • Profound abilities to manage classroom and group energetics
  • Meditative prayer and contemplation techniques

A little home practice

Meditation can help you: focus your mind, remain calm under pressure, and enjoy each moment. The days of being bored or uncomfortable in meditation are over! Try practicing one of the following techniques at the start of your day and notice how the day flows better.

1. Rise and shine
When you wake up in the morning, completely relax your body for one minute, while you’re still lying in bed. Think of 5 things you’re really grateful for. Then gently sit up and wrap your duvet around you. Bring your attention to your breathing and let it get deeper without forcing it at all. Focus on your heart chakra and feel warmth spreading through your body as you breathe. Continue for five minutes, then stretch (ideally a Dru Yoga sequence!) and start your day.

2. Relax your body and mind

Do some stretches or gentle Dru Yoga, then lie down on the floor on a firm yet comfortable surface (a soft carpet or blanket is fine) or a reclining chair and cover yourself to stay warm.

Starting from your feet, tense and relax each part of your body. Contract the muscles first in your feet, and then feel each of the toes relaxing as you soften the feet against the floor. Work up the body, through the legs, hips, abdomen, chest, back, neck and head. Then focus on your breathing, and each time you breathe out, let your body release tension. As you breathe in, take peace and calmness into the body. Repeat for 5 minutes.
To finish, gradually bring your awareness back to your body and feel how your body is positioned on the floor. Move your toes and fingers gently, then stretch and sit up without disturbing that wonderful feeling of relaxation.

3. Try this stress busting technique
Relax for a few moments and focus on your breathing, watching the natural rhythm of each inhalation and exhalation.
Imagine a situation in your life that needs healing. Create an image of that situation in front of you, as if it were on a video screen. As you breathe in, draw some of the stress of the situation into your heart and immediately send it upwards and out of the top of your head as you breathe out. Feel that above your head is a region of golden light in which you have full access to your healing potential. Imagine the stress entering this region and visualise the situation being completely healed.

On an in-breath, draw this new situation into your heart and breathe it out into the scene in front of you, bringing peace and a good solution to that situation. See smiles of relief on the faces of everyone concerned.

Repeat steps 2-5 until you feel relaxed, calm and full of joy.

‘I have learned through The DMTT that I can access a very quiet, still place within myself, especially when life’s circumstances are very challenging. This has been an invaluable experience and I’m very happy I
decided to do the course.’

What are the benefits of Meditation?

Science is now agreeing that meditation can be a powerful form of stress relief and can help general health. Hundreds of studies on meditation have been performed, and they indicate the following:

  • Meditation creates a unique hypo-metabolic state, in which the metabolism is in an even deeper state of rest than during sleep. During sleep, oxygen consumption drops by 8 percent, but during meditation, it drops by 10 to 20 percent.
  • Meditation is the only activity that reduces blood lactate, a marker of stress and anxiety.
  • The calming hormones melatonin and serotonin are increased by meditation, and the stress hormone cortisol is decreased.
  • Meditators secrete more of the youth-related hormone DHEA as they age than non-meditators. Meditating forty-five-year-old males have an average of 23 percent more DHEA than non-meditators, and meditating females have an average of 47 percent more. This helps decrease stress, heighten memory, preserve sexual function, and control weight.
  • Meditation has a profound effect upon three key indicators of aging: hearing ability, blood pressure, and vision of close objects.
  • Long-term meditators experience 80 percent less heart disease and 50 percent less cancer than non-meditators.
  • 75 percent of insomniacs were able to sleep normally when they meditated.
  • 34 percent of people with chronic pain significantly reduced medication when they began meditating.
